Midterm election kicks off in US

Baku. 6 November. REPORT.AZ/ The midterm election has started in the USA. Report informs citing foreign media that the first polling stations opened in Vermont in the northeast.

US citizens in the midterm election will determine the new composition of the House of Representatives, as well as re-elect a third of the Senate. Currently, the upper and lower houses of the Congress are controlled by Republicans. The ratio of Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives is 236 against 193, six more places are vacant. In order to retake hold of the House of Representatives, the Democrats need to get at least 23 more mandates. A record number of voters - over 100 million -  is expected to participate in the voting.
