Magnitude 6.2 earthquake strikes off eastern Taiwan coast

A magnitude-6.2 earthquake struck far off the eastern coast of Taiwan at 7:05 a.m. Tuesday and was felt across the country, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), Report informs, citing foreign media sources.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The epicenter of the temblor was located at sea, about 120.2 kilometers east of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 5.7 km, according to the administration.

The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in Yilan, Hualien, Hsinchu, Chiayi, Yunlin, Changhua, and New Taipei, where it measured 3 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale.

The quake also measured an intensity of 2 in Taichung, Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung cities, as well as Nantou, Miaoli, and Taitung counties, the CWA said.
