The border of Lithuania with the Russian Federation (with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation, there are no other common borders between Lithuania and Russia - ed.), passing both by land and along waterways - the Neman and the Baltic Sea - is under increased protection, said Minister of the Interior of the Baltic Republic Agne Bilotaite, who visited the port of Klaipeda, Report informs referring to TASS.
"The ongoing hybrid attacks against Lithuania, as well as the war in Ukraine, oblige us to be on the highest alert. I can assure you that the water and land borders with Russia are being guarded in an enhanced regime," she said in a statement from the country's Interior Ministry. The minister did not specify the nature and features of such a regime.
According to her, these measures in the Klaipeda region are especially important in connection with the facilities located here. "This is the only Klaipeda State Seaport in Lithuania, as well as eight objects of strategic importance, among which a special place is occupied by the liquefied natural gas terminal operating in the port," Bilotaite said.
