Lavrov: Russian Embassy in Kabul strengthens security of diplomatic mission

Security measures for the Russian embassy in Afghanistan have been strengthened, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated before the start of negotiations with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Report informs citing Russian media.

“A set of measures was immediately taken to strengthen the protection of the outer perimeter, additional forces of the Taliban authorities were involved, the capabilities of the intelligence and counterintelligence service of Afghanistan were used. Let’s hope that the organizers of this terror attack and its perpetrators will be punished in the very near future,” Lavrov said.

Earlier it was reported that as a result of an explosion near the building of the Russian Embassy in Kabul, about 20 people were killed, including two employees of the Russian diplomatic mission. According to preliminary information, the explosive device was activated by a suicide bomber who was in a crowd near the consular department of the embassy.
