King of Jordan calls for comprehensive climate solutions

King Abdullah II of Jordan has called for a comprehensive solution to climate problems, Report informs referring to TASS.

He was delivering a speech in the high-level segment at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-28), which is being held in Dubai.

Jordan accounts for 0.06% of global carbon dioxide emissions but is heavily impacted by climate change, which threatens its scarce water resources, the king said. Abdullah II noted that the most ambitious project in the country is related to the desalination of water from the Red Sea and its subsequent transportation from the Gulf of Aqaba to major population centers.

He emphasized that the national strategy envisages the production of 31% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
