JHA approves Croatia's accession to Schengen

Croatia has received the unanimous support of the Justice and Home Affairs Council and will become a member of the Schengen Agreement on January 1, 2023, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic tweeted, Report informs.
In November, the European Commission announced the readiness of Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia to join the Schengen and recommended the Council of the European Union approve this decision.
A press release on the official website of the EC specified that the expansion of the Schengen area without internal border controls would make Europe safer through enhanced protection of external borders and effective law enforcement cooperation. It is assumed that the entry of Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia into Schengen will also facilitate business contacts.
