Japanese parliament opposes changing Ukraine's status quo by force

On Tuesday, Japan's House of Representatives, the lower house of the National Diet, adopted a resolution on growing tensions around Ukraine, condemning any attempt to change its status quo by force, Report informs.

"The House of Representatives is deeply concerned about the situation and declares that it is always with the Ukrainian people, who hope for the stability of their country and region. Changing the status quo by force by any country is never acceptable," reads the parliamentary resolution.

At the same time, parliamentarians called on the government of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to do everything possible to achieve peace.

"We urge the government to live up to our hopes, cooperate with the international community, use all diplomatic resources and do everything possible to reduce tensions in Ukraine and achieve peace as soon as possible," stated the resolution.

In a virtual meeting last month, Kishida and US President Joe Biden agreed to work together to contain Russia's actions against Ukraine.

Western countries have been expressing concern over the movement of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border in recent weeks. They believe that Russia may be planning an invasion of the neighboring country and threaten it with sanctions. Moscow has repeatedly stated that it does not plan anything of the kind.
