ISW: Kremlin prepares harsher response against Armenia

The Kremlin is likely preparing a harsher and more concerted response as Armenia continues to take measures to distance itself from Russia and signal interest in strengthening relations with the West, Report informs, citing the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

It was noted that a Kremlin-affiliated prominent milblogger continues to accuse the West of bribing and blackmailing Armenian officials to pursue anti-Russian positions.

Furthermore, on March 6, Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, told reporters that Armenia had formally sent a notification to Moscow to facilitate the withdrawal of Russian military forces stationed at Zvartnots airport. Grigoryan also criticized the CSTO for its failure to acknowledge the territorial integrity of Armenia.

In a related commentary, the US Institute for the Study of War previously suggested that Armenia’s distancing from Russia could have significant repercussions for Prime Minister Pashinyan.
