Israeli troops are in the “heart of Gaza City” and are surrounding Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in the besieged enclave in his bunker, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said, Report informs via Sky News.
In a televised statement, Gallant said the IDF’s top target was “isolated” and “hiding” without “contact with his associates” but he did not disclose where the bunker is located.
“We are in the heart of Gaza City,” Gallant told reporters.
“IDF forces came from the north and the south. They stormed [into the city] in full coordination between land, air, and sea forces.
“They are manoeuvring on foot, armoured vehicles and tanks, along with military engineers from all directions.”
Gallant added that Israeli troops “are tightening the noose around Gaza City.”
“They have one target - Hamas terrorists in Gaza - their infrastructure, their commanders, bunkers and communications rooms," the Defence Minister said.
“Gaza is the largest terrorist base ever built. The whole of Gaza is a terrorism base.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a press conference on Tuesday where he said the IDF is “deepening pressure on Hamas every hour”.
“Gaza City is now surrounded, and we are acting within Gaza City. We are deepening pressure on Hamas every hour,” Netanyahu said.
“Up to this point we’ve killed so may terrorists both on the ground and under the ground -amongst which great murderers who have planned and operated the murderous October 7th attack on Israel.
Netanyahu added that the Palestinian terrorist group is discovering that the Israeli Defence Forces “are reaching places they thought we would never reach.”
As the Israeli military ramps up its ground offensive in Gaza City, IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said there won’t be a ceasefire.
“Hamas terrorists tell themselves that there will be a ceasefire. There won’t be one. We are moving forward,” Hagari said on Tuesday.
