Israel called the attacks on Iran a last chance to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons, as diplomatic efforts have failed, according to a letter from Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to UN Security Council President Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Report informs.
It was stated that Israel's military operation is aimed at neutralizing the imminent threat posed by Iran's nuclear and missile programs.
The letter states that Israel is acting strictly in accordance with international law and only strikes military infrastructure.
Saar accused the Iranian state of systematically deceiving the international community and violating its obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
"Instead of returning to compliance, Iran responded with further escalation, expanding uranium enrichment and other efforts to obtain nuclear weapons. Iran's nuclear strategy is clear - to obtain nuclear weapons that would be aimed at the State of Israel," reads the letter.
The minister called for the letter to be disseminated as an official document of the UN Security Council and General Assembly and said that a similar message had been sent to the organization's Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.
