Israel summons Ukraine ambassador over Kyiv's support for Palestinians' initiative in UN

Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk has been summoned to the Israeli Foreign Ministry after Kyiv supported the initiative of Palestine to apply to the International Court of Justice in The Hague for a legal opinion on the long-term occupation of the West Bank of the Jordan River, Report informs citing TASS.

Protest will be expressed to the ambassador in connection with the vote of the Ukrainian representative in the UN Special Political and Decolonization Committee last week. Amir Weisbrod, head of the International Organizations Department at the Israeli Foreign Ministry, called Kyiv’s move "outrageous." "We will find a way to express our dissatisfaction with the Ukrainians. We will invite the ambassador and think about how else to respond," the diplomat added.

On November 11, the UN Special Political and Decolonization Committee approved the initiative put forward by the Palestinian side to apply to the International Court of Justice in The Hague for a legal opinion on the long-term occupation of the West Bank of the Jordan River. As many as 98 countries, including Ukraine, supported the initiative, 17 states opposed, 52 abstained.
