India seeks progress on trade deal with US in upcoming talks

India intends to advance work on a bilateral trade agreement with the United States and finalize an interim deal during upcoming negotiations.

According to Report, citing Reuters, Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will visit the United States from September 29 to October 5.

Goyal will hold bilateral talks with his US counterpart. According to a government statement, the discussions will aim to advance work on a "balanced and mutually beneficial" trade agreement between India and the United States and finalize an interim deal in line with the joint statement of February 7, 2026.

During the visit, Goyal will also attend a meeting of G20 trade ministers in Wisconsin.

The trip will take place at the invitation of US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

Despite months of negotiations, India and the United States have yet to reach agreement on a trade deal, with New Delhi seeking more favorable terms.
