India, Russia discuss cooperation in small nuclear reactors

The development of cooperation in the field of low-power nuclear reactors was discussed in Russia by Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Report informs via the Hindustan Times.
According to the publication, India and Russia have decided to expand civilian nuclear cooperation. According to the newspaper, Moscow is ready to share technologies for creating a small modular reactor used to produce electricity in volumes from 75 MW to 300 MW.
Both sides are also pushing for the speedy commissioning of the third and fourth reactors of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant while speeding up work on the fifth and sixth reactors, Hindustan Times reported.
Kudankulam NPP is a nuclear power plant with VVER-1000 power units located in the south of India. The first power unit of the station has been operating steadily at the design power level of 1,000 since February 2016. The nuclear power plant is scheduled to reach full capacity in 2027.
