India launches nationwide airport inspection following Delhi airport roofing collapse

The Indian government has taken swift action to conduct a comprehensive safety check of all airports across the country following a tragic incident at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The decision comes in the wake of a roof collapse that resulted in one fatality and left several others injured.

Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, India's Minister of Civil Aviation, addressed journalists, stating, "We've requested Delhi International Airport Limited to conduct their own inspection, but we're not leaving it solely to their discretion."

He emphasized the government's commitment to thorough scrutiny, adding, "We will carry out a meticulous inspection of all airports under our jurisdiction and compile a comprehensive report."

The minister provided details about the incident, explaining that a portion of the canopy outside the airport building "collapsed due to heavy rainfall that began overnight." He expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
