Hundreds of Lebanese suffer white phosphorus poisoning since fall 2023

The Lebanese Ministry of Health has reported that approximately 260 Lebanese citizens have suffered from white phosphorus poisoning since the fall of 2023, as a result of Israel's bombardment of the southern regions of the country, according to Report.

At least 257 individuals have been affected by phosphorus poisoning between October 2023 and August 20th of the current year, the ministry said, adding that the escalating violence has claimed the lives of 564 people in Lebanon since the beginning of the armed confrontation.

The Ministry of Health also reported that more than 110,099 individuals have been forced to abandon their homes due to the Israeli shelling. The Financial Times, citing radar and satellite data, previously reported on June 27 that Israel's near-daily bombardment of Hezbollah targets using white phosphorus munitions has rendered a 5-kilometer zone along the Israeli-Lebanese border uninhabitable.
