The ban on the use of the Corsican language in debates in the Corsican Assembly is an injustice and a disgrace, leader of the Party of Corsican Nation Jean-Christophe Angelini said, Report informs via LeMatin.ch.
According to him, the decision of the court of the city of Bastia that French is the only language allowed in the performance of public duties sounds like an insult to Corsicans.
In turn, the president of the island's executive council, lawyer and politician Gilles Simeoni and the President of the Corsica Assembly, Marie-Antoinette Maupertuis, said: "To accept such a situation is unthinkable for us."
They also reported that they had already filed an appeal for a review of this decision.
The elected nationalist deputies believe that this court decision and its motivation only confirm the absolute need to revise the Constitution, in particular, in order to guarantee the official status of the Corsican language, which is a necessary condition for its survival and development.
The pro-independence party Core in Fronte also condemned the court decision on Twitter, calling it shameful in Corsican.
Bastia City Court referred to the French Constitution in its ruling that French is the only language allowed in the performance of public duties.
