Greek PM orders to accelerate offshore exploration, exploitation of hydrocarbons

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has ordered to accelerate the program of exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in the Ionian Sea and near the island of Crete, Report informs citing TASS.
The head of government was speaking at a meeting in the office of the Hellenic Hydrocarbon Management Company with the participation of its management, as well as the administration of the Hellenic Petroleum company.
According to the Greek state television channel ERT-1, Mitsotakis announced at the meeting the upgrade of hydrocarbon exploration activities to projects of national importance.
According to the Greek news website In.gr, the prime minister has set a number of tasks to resume hydrocarbon exploration, taking into account the problem of the country’s need for sufficient energy resources caused by the events in Ukraine.
First, it is necessary to speed up programs for the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons. Secondly, it is necessary to get a clear idea of the presence of potential natural gas deposits by the end of 2023, as well as whether they can be exploited.
