Global COVID-19 cases approach 40 million

The total number of coronavirus cases globally has exceeded 39 million, Report says, citing the Sputnik.

As of 18 October, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases stands for 39 959 651, while 1 114 636 people fell victim to the virus.

The United States, India, and Brazil make the top three regarding the spread of dangerous infection.

In the United States, 8 of 342 665 people have contracted coronavirus so far. The death toll accounts for 224,282.

India ranks recond with 494 7 551 confirmed cases. The number of deaths is 114,064.

Brazil is in third place, with 5 224 362 infected people. Besides, 153,690 patients died with COVID-19 complications.

Russia, which was previously in the top three, now ranks fourth. The number of confirmed infection cases is 1,384,235, and 24,002 infected people have died of COVID-19.
