Germany rejects 95% of Azerbaijani citizens applying for refugee status

German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (IEPF) considered the cases of 1,301 Azerbaijani citizens who applied for refugee status in 2020, Report informs.

Last year, 748 Azerbaijani citizens visited Germany to apply for refugee status. Of those, 435 applicants were registered for the first time, while 313 were re-registered.

In other words, only 5.2 percent of the 1,301 applicants received a positive response, and appeals of 94.8 percent were rejected.

Only 68 of the applicants were granted refugee status and appropriate protection status. 16 people benefited from the law on protection against deportation. Others have been given time to leave the country voluntarily. Despite the pandemic, the decisions of the administrative courts have been implemented.

According to the IEPF, in 2020, the federal administration registered 145,071 applications for refugee status from citizens of different countries. It is a 15% decrease compared to 2019 statistics.
