The coalition government of Germany could not agree on creating the National Security Council due to disagreements about how the organization will work and who will lead it, Der Spiegel wrote in an article, Report informs.
According to the sources, months of negotiations between Chancellor Olaf Scholz (Social Democratic Party) and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (The Greens) did not end in agreement. As a result, it was decided to postpone the project temporarily.
It was assumed that the new body would have to improve coordination between the office of the chancellor and various ministries on controversial issues - relations with China, the military presence in Mali or the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
The Green Party fears that the political role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be reduced. The party representatives proposed a model in which the council would be led in rotation.
