Europe should maintain a presence in Niger, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Report informs.
Germany intends to remain active in the region, he noted.
“From our point of view, it is important that Europe maintains a presence in Niger. We want to remain active in the region, including in order not to leave this field to the Russians or others who contribute to further destabilization. Therefore, a presence on the ground is important to us,” said Pistorius.
Further destabilization in the Sahel region will have very specific consequences for Europe, be it terrorism or illegal migration, he added.
