Germany approves record amount of arms supplies in 2023

Germany has approved arms supplies worth a record 11.7 billion euros in 2023, according to the DPA agency, Report informs referring to TASS.

The previous record was broken in 2021, when Germany approved supplies worth 9.35 billion euros, the German Ministry of Economics said in a statement. Thus, the current record is almost 25% higher than the previous one; compared to last year, the increase was 40%.

The message indicates that 6.15 billion euros of the indicated amount are supplies of weapons and 5.67 billion euros are supplies of other defense products. Almost 90% fell on the EU countries, NATO, Ukraine, Japan, Australia, South Korea and other states in which “control over arms exports is carried out in the same way as in the alliance countries.” Moreover, more than a third of all supplies, 4.15 billion euros, approved in the period from January 1 to December 12, 2023, are intended for Kyiv. The remaining countries, including Israel, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, received approximately 1.76 billion euros.

The German budget for next year includes 8 billion euros for arms supplies to Kyiv. The total volume of assistance to Ukraine from Germany - humanitarian, financial and military - since February 2022 has exceeded 25 billion euros.
