Germany remains committed to the goal of spending 2% of GDP on defense, Deputy Representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers Wolfgang Buechner said, Report informs referring to TASS.
“Germany will achieve this goal as early as 2024,” he said, adding that this is spelled out in Germany’s national security strategy.
Earlier, the Handelsblatt newspaper wrote that Germany spent only 1 billion of 100 billion euros that were allocated for the modernization of the army a year and a half ago. From this, the publication concluded that until 2025 the republic, most likely, will not be able to spend 2% of the gross domestic product on defense.
