France tortures people of Guadeloupe: Men are chained, women and children taabducted from homes

"Men are chained, women and children are taken from their homes at midnight and transported to unknown destinations. French colonialism is a trauma passed from generation to generation," Chantal Ibrahim, Deputy Chairman of the International Movement for Reparations - Guadeloupe, who participated in the international conference Decolonization: Silent Revolution, told Report.

The conference was organized by the Baku Initiative Group at the UN headquarters in New York.

Chantal Ibrahim highlighted the bitter consequences of French colonialism. She stated that scenes of violence repeated for centuries have left incurable marks in the collective memory of the people of Guadeloupe:

"They destroy the bonds of homes. Screams are heard from behind doors beaten at midnight. Orders given in foreign languages create anxiety everywhere. Men are chained, women and children are taken from their homes at midnight and transported to unknown destinations. The next day houses remain empty, cities go dark, fields are abandoned. Footprints and bloodstains become witnesses to violence. This is the trauma passed from generation to generation."

According to her, despite the suffering inflicted, the people of Guadeloupe do not retreat from their struggle for freedom:

"We do not submit to occupiers without resistance; we fight by building free communities against colonialism, by rightfully rebelling, by protecting our culture. The Creole language, despite the French language being official, is the main value that unites us. Our dances, songs, and way of life are our identity."

She emphasized that the decolonization process should be carried out not only at the political level but also at historical, cultural, and social levels:

"We must continue the struggle against alienation. Our youth must know their history, and this history should give them the power to form themselves."
