France to participate in meeting on Polynesia for first time

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin will take part in the work of the 4th Committee on French Polynesia for the first time following the instructions of the President, Darmanin said on X, Report informs.

In response to France's continued hostile policy against Azerbaijan, the Baku Initiative Group organized a conference themed "Decolonization. The Quiet Revolution" at the headquarters of the UN on September 22, within the UN General Assembly High-level Week 2023.

About 30 supporters of independence living in the overseas territories of France, located in different regions of the world, took part in the event. The conference was the first UN event on decolonization with the participation of overseas territories. The final statement was signed by the participants, and the names of the parties joining the declaration were included in the document. The declaration was translated into 4 languages (English, French, Spanish and Russian) and distributed. More than twenty foreign media outlets reported on the event.

The participants of the conference demanded that France abandon its colonial policy and implement the resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly on decolonization. The delegation of French Polynesia condemned the fact that the French ambassador demonstratively left the hall every time during the speeches by the delegation members at the Special Political and Decolonization (Fourth) Committee of the UN Security Council and that official Paris avoided dialogue with them.

This fact once again proves how the conference held by the Baku Initiative Group in New York worried France and forced it to start a dialogue with overseas territories.
