Türkiye cannot support Sweden's bid to join NATO unless Stockholm fulfills its obligations, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said, Report informs via Anadolu.
According to Cavusoglu, the steps taken by Sweden in this direction are insufficient. The Swedish side should consider Ankara's concerns regarding the fight against manifestations of terrorism.
Cavusoglu recalled that Ankara signed a corresponding trilateral Memorandum with the two Scandinavian countries on the sidelines of the last NATO summit in Madrid.
He noted that although the Swedish authorities have amended the legislation of the kingdom, accomplices of terrorists continue to operate freely in this country.
"We can consider the applications of the two Scandinavian countries to NATO separately. Ankara's attitude towards Finland's appeal is more positive," Cavusoglu stressed.
He also strongly condemned the anti-Islamic rallies in Europe.
"The desecration of sacred books, regardless of religion, is blasphemous and unacceptable. The world community must work together to combat such crimes," the Turkish minister emphasized.
