FM of New Caledonia: ‘We vote for our sovereignty’

New Caledonia is located 22,000 kilometers from France. This is a reality that must be taken into account, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Caledonia, Mickael Forrest, said during roundtable discussions and a hybrid-format press conference titled “Decolonization, International Diplomacy, and the Role of Communication in the Modern World,” Report informs.

“Because we are so far apart geographically, there is another factor that needs to be taken into account and that is geopolitics. In particular, I think about the migrant crisis and the crisis of the European Union, because after Brexit the EU has not regained stability,” Forrest said.

“We are a proud people, we vote for our property, for our sovereignty. But we also have a common feature - I had the opportunity to say this to several members of the French parliament, that the French people today are a people who suffer very much. “At this point, the French state must be able to take care of its people,” he noted.
