The Libyan authorities have actually blocked the city of Derna, which suffered more than other settlements from floods, and from today only rescue teams are allowed into it, head of the ambulance service in the east of the country, Salem al-Farjani said, Report informs via TASS.
"Only members of the search and rescue services are allowed to enter Derna," said al-Farjani, as quoted by Sky News Arabia. He added that residents of Derna would be evacuated.
The closure of Derna and the evacuation of its residents was caused by the threat of an epidemic that could spread due to the dead bodies and animal corpses that remain under the rubble.
According to the International Organization for Migration, almost 39,000 people were forced to leave their homes due to the hurricane and floods in northeast Libya.
