Finnish Foreign Minister confirms plans to build fence on border with Russia

Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto confirmed that the republic may build a fence on the border with Russia.

According to Report, speaking in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo Haavisto said that at present it is very calm on the border, there are no military threats.

"But there are other concepts of threats, like what Belarus did to Poland ... Under these conditions, it seems that the construction of the border fence helped protect the territory," Haavisto said.

He added that Finland closed the borders for Russian tourists because their movement could pose a threat to the country's foreign policy. At the same time, Haavisto added that Russian citizens who were denied access by other Baltic countries could enter through Finland and get to these countries through the Schengen zone. The diplomat called this situation a risk for Finland's international relations.
