"We did not make any progress at the meeting with Turkiye, so we will probably not be able to join NATO until September," said Finnish President Sauli Niinistö at a press conference with President of the European Parliament (EP) President Roberta Metsola in Helsinki, Report informs, citing TASS.
"Although no special progress was made at the meeting, we are pleased that discussions have begun. I would not like to say the exact date, but we are unlikely to become a member of the organization by September, " he said.
In May, Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO. Turkiye has opposed the expansion of the alliance, accusing it of supporting terrorism, and set conditions for consideration of this issue.
