Finland says no plans to deploy US nuclear weapons

Finland does not see the need to host the US nuclear arsenal on its territory, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said in an interview with the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.

According to him, Finland is carefully preparing to carry out its tasks within NATO and is already participating in containing potential threats to the alliance using conventional weapons.

"This (positioning US nuclear weapons in Finland) is not necessary, since NATO itself provides nuclear deterrence. Nuclear weapons are deployed in several countries of the alliance and that is enough," he noted.

In December, Finnish authorities signed an agreement with the United States that granted the Pentagon access to a total of 15 Finnish military facilities. The Americans will be able to station troops, weapons and equipment there.
