The European Union intends to invite UN Secretary General António Guterres to become a mediator for organizing negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, head of the EU Foreign Service, Josep Borrell, said at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday.
“In order to achieve peace, we must help Ukraine in the military sphere more than we have [already] done. We need to win the war and at the same time make every possible diplomatic effort. These are not contradictory things. We need to simultaneously strengthen our [military] assistance and diplomatic efforts. Very soon I will be able to call for this at the UN and ask the UN Secretary General to start, if he wants, the process of mediation," he said.
