EU to have supervisory body for regulating work of Telegram

A supervisory body will appear in the EU that will regulate the work of the Telegram messenger, Report informs referring to the Belgian publication De Standaard.

According to the publication, the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT) will monitor how Telegram responds to the spread of illegal content in the messenger, for example, calls for violence or illegal sales of weapons.

If the company does not respond to user complaints, the regulator will be able to fine it.

BIPT is awaiting formal appointment as a regulator.
