EU to evacuate citizens of its member countries from Niger

The EU has decided to evacuate citizens of its member states from Niger, where only the delegation of the European Commission dealing with issues of humanitarian assistance will remain, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell wrote in his blog on the European External Action Service (EEAS) website, Report informs.

He reminded that Brussels has already curtailed all budgetary support to Niger and cooperation with this country in the field of security.

He also announced once again that the EU will never recognize the forces that came to power as a result of the coup in Niger, and said that these events, following the coups that began in 2021 in Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso and Sudan, will be the largest reversal against democracy in the region.

Borrell expressed hope that he would soon be able to visit Niger again to continue working with President Mohamed Bazoum, who is currently removed from power.
