EU: TikTok has 24h to handle illegal content, disinfo

European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton announced on Thursday that the institution gave ByteDance Ltd.'s TikTok 24 hours to create a strategy to deal with the "illegal content and disinformation" spread across the platforms following Hamas attacks on Israel, Report informs via Baha Breaking News.

In a written statement Breton sent to TikTok, he reminded the company of the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA), stressing that, in accordance with it, "you need to put in place appropriate and proportionate measures to guarantee a high level of privacy, safety and security."

Breton called on TikTok to introduce a plan and report on it to the European Commission. "We will include your answer in our assessment file on your compliance with the DSA. I remind you that following the opening of an investigation and a finding of non-compliance, penalties can be imposed," he concluded.
