Erdogan calls Istanbul talks between Moscow, Kyiv critically important on path to peace

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called the talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul critically important in terms of a ceasefire and laying the groundwork for a final peace, Report informs.

The Turkish leader was speaking at a plenary session of the European Political Community meeting in Tirana.

He noted that the ceasefire remains a priority in mediation efforts on Ukraine, as always. Erdogan said that he held separate talks with the leaders of the US, Russia and Ukraine, and also held telephone conversations with (Italian Prime Minister Giorgia) Meloni and (French President Emmanuel) Macron on their initiative.

"For the first time since March 2022, there is a real opportunity to stop the bloodshed. I call on my European colleagues to also provide support so that the channel of dialogue between Russia and Ukraine remains open. Türkiye, in turn, will continue to make its feasible contribution to a peaceful settlement," he added.
