EC studying Hungary’s complaint against Bulgaria due to increase in gas transit tariffs

The European Commission (EC) has received a letter from the Hungarian government in connection with the decision of the Bulgarian authorities to impose a tax on the transit of Russian gas for Hungary through Bulgaria, it is being studied, EC representative Tim McPhie said at a briefing, Report informs referring to Interfax.
"I can confirm that yes, we received the letter last week. Of course, we are analyzing it as expected," he said.
As reported last week, Hungary asked the EC to launch a procedure regarding violating EU legislation in relation to Bulgaria, which at the national level introduced a tax on the transit of Russian gas through its territory.
In mid-October, the Bulgarian government announced a new fee for the transit of Russian gas through its territory. Import and transit of Russian gas was subject to a fee of 20 levs per 1 MW/h - about $111 per 1,000 cubic meters.
