Delegation of French senators to arrive in Taiwan on September 7

A five-member French Senate delegation will arrive in Taiwan on September 7 for a six-day visit, Report informs citing TASS.

The delegation will be headed by Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on European Affairs Cyril Pellevat. He already visited Taipei in 2016 and 2017.

Meetings are scheduled with Deputy Chief of Taiwan Administration William Lai, Speaker of the Legislative Yuan (Parliament) You Si-kun, and other officials. The parties intend to discuss security issues in the Indo-Pacific region, cooperation in the field of technology and innovation, supply chains and other issues of mutual interest, the agency said.

This is the first political delegation from a major European country to visit the island since US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s August 2-3 visit to Taipei prompted a sharp reaction from Beijing, which began military exercises in the region.
