Latvia is increasing the full-fledged production of large-caliber ammunition on its territory, Minister of Defense Inara Murniece said upon her arrival at an informal meeting of the Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs of the European Union in Toledo, Report informs referring to TASS.
“Latvia has its own projects for the production of large-caliber ammunition. We will start with the manufacture of some parts for them. But gradually we will develop their full-cycle production,” Murniece said.
In her statement, she also touched upon the topic of military assistance to Ukraine.
“Our military aid has exceeded 1% of GDP,” the minister stressed. According to her, this is a significant figure, given the small size of the country. The head of the defense department also added that Latvia plans to train 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
Informal meetings of foreign ministers are held twice a year in countries that preside for six months in the EU Council. As a rule, no official decisions and documents are adopted following these meetings.
