The southern regions of China have been battered by torrential rains since the beginning of the flood season, resulting in devastating landslides, floods, and mudslides, Report informs citing China Central Television.

The catastrophic events have claimed 38 lives and affected more than 55,000 others.

Pingyuan County in the Meizhou City of Guangdong Province has been hit particularly hard by the relentless downpours.

As of 3:00 PM on June 21, the natural disaster has left 38 people dead and two others missing.

The scale of the damage is staggering, with 55,388 people affected, 2,247 houses collapsed, and 4,697 roads damaged. Agricultural losses are also significant, with 6,759 hectares of crops and 452 hectares of aquaculture affected.

The direct economic losses from this calamity are estimated to reach around 5.85 billion yuan (approximately $800 million).
