Damage from February earthquakes in Türkiye reaches $110B

The total damage to Türkiye from the earthquakes that occurred in February 2023 amounted to $110 billion, the Turkish Minister of Ecology and Urban Development Mehmet Ozhaseki said, Report informs via TASS.
“Our total losses from the February 6 earthquakes are estimated at $110 billion. 66% of the territory of our country and 71% of its citizens are at risk of earthquakes of the first and second categories,” the minister said in parliament when discussing the budget of the ministry he heads for 2024.
Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred in the southeast of Türkiye on February 6. The tremors, followed by thousands of aftershocks, were felt over a wide area and in neighboring countries.
