In the coming weeks, the Czech government will approve the agreement on joining the joint procurement of Leopard 2A8 tanks, said Defense Minister Jana Černochová, Report informs via Idnes.
The Czech Republic is negotiating with Germany about joining a tender to buy 77 tanks.
According to Černochová, the agreement is an intermediate step towards the actual conclusion of the purchase contract, which could be signed by the end of this year.
According to the minister, the price for the tanks should be similar to that of the CV90 combat vehicles, for which the Czech Republic will pay 59.7 billion crowns (about $2.64billion).
In the last two years, Germany donated 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks and one recovery vehicle to the Czech Republic to help Ukraine. In February 2024, Černochová informed the government about the possibility of another donation with the same content.
