Chinese Foreign Minister: ‘Situation around Taiwan is calm’

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called the situation in the Taiwan Strait calm, but pointed to destabilizing influences from abroad in the region, Report informs.

He said in an interview with The Peninsula Qatar that there are serious challenges. Among them, the biggest problems are related to the separatist activities of the forces supporting the independence of Taiwan, as well as the intervention of foreign forces.

The minister mentioned that Taiwan has been an integral part of China since ancient times, and the Cairo Declaration of 1943 provided for the return of Taiwan to China after its occupation by Japan:

"The Taiwan issue is entirely China's internal affairs, and how to achieve the reunification of the motherland is the business of the Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait."
