Chinese embassy in Niger recommends citizens to leave country

The Chinese Embassy in Niamey has advised Chinese citizens to leave Niger unless they have a compelling reason to stay in the African country, Report informs referring to TASS.

“Given the current difficult situation in Niger, the Chinese Embassy recommends that all Chinese living in Niger be vigilant, strengthen protection, stay away from the streets and take proper precautions. If there is no reason to stay in Niger, Chinese citizens should leave for a third country or return home,” reads the message.

At the same time, the embassy notes that the internal situation in Niger has generally stabilized after the coup. The diplomatic mission also advised Chinese citizens to postpone their trip to Niger unless absolutely necessary.

Earlier, several countries, including France, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Germany, the UK, evacuated their citizens from Niger. It was also reported that the US intends to take some of its citizens out of Niger on charter flights, along with embassy staff and their families.

The day before, the rebels who seized power in Niger imposed a ban on flights in national airspace and accused unnamed countries of preparing aggression against Niger.
