China protests Biden's pledge to defend Taiwan with US military

The Chinese Foreign Ministry urged the US to realize the "importance and sensitivity" of the Taiwan issue for Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said during today's briefing, Report informs.

The reaction followed the words of US President Joe Biden about his readiness to use the army to protect the island from a Chinese attack.

The PRC protested in response and urged not to underestimate Beijing's determination to defend its sovereignty. The ministry also stressed that China "reserves the right to take all necessary measures."

The US statements grossly violate the One China principle and the provisions of the three joint Sino-US communiqués, seriously violate the US's important commitment not to support Taiwan's independence, and send a false signal to pro-independence separatist forces.

Earlier, Joe Biden, answering a question from a CBS reporter, stressed that the US army would defend Taiwan in the event of an "unprecedented attack." He confirmed that the US strategy in a potential conflict with China would differ from the participation of the American side in the Ukrainian events with the direct involvement of the army.
