Chinese authorities have evacuated more than 150,000 residents in the eastern province of Fujian as the menacing Super Typhoon Goni barrels towards the region. The powerful tropical cyclone is expected to make landfall on July 25 in the afternoon, prompting officials to take swift action to ensure public safety.
According to Report, which cites Xinhua, over 70 ferry routes have been suspended, and around 100 flights have been canceled in anticipation of the typhoon's arrival.
Meteorologists predict that Goni will continue moving in a northwesterly direction at a speed of 10-15 kilometers per hour, bringing heavy rainfall to Fujian. Some areas have already experienced more than 170 mm of precipitation within a 24-hour period.
Fujian's administration has taken proactive measures to mitigate the potential impact of Super Typhoon Goni by declaring an elevated level of emergency response.
Tragically, reports from Taiwan indicate that two people have lost their lives, and 201 others have been injured due to the typhoon's onslaught.
