An outbreak of an unknown disease with neurological symptoms has been detected in the Canadian province of New Brunswick, Report informs, citing The New York Times.
The disease was first discovered in 2015. At least 48 residents of the province have reported symptoms, and six have died ever since. Doctors cannot establish a diagnosis since the disease manifestations do not have a clear connection with each other.
Patients reportedly experience insomnia, impaired motor function, hallucinations, muscle pain, rapidly progressing dementia, depression, anxiety, and visual impairment. The conducted tests revealed brain atrophy and neurological dysfunction in patients.
Those affected by the disease are aged between 18 and 84 years old and live mainly in two boroughs of New Brunswick. Currently, doctors continue to study the symptoms to establish a diagnosis.
