Boris Johnson won't attend Prince Philip's funeral

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not attend the funeral of the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and will instead give up his seat to allow another family member to attend, Report informs, citing Sky News.

It comes after Buckingham Palace revealed that only 30 people would be attending the duke's funeral, in an effort to follow COVID-compliant protocols.

"The prime minister has throughout wanted to act in accordance with what is best for the royal household, and so to allow for as many family members as possible will not be attending the funeral on Saturday," said an official at the PM’s Office.

The funeral of Prince Philip, who died on April 9 at the age of 99, will be held on April 17. The British public is encouraged to watch on television and stay away from the area.

The proceedings will be kept within the confines of Windsor Castle and the Duke of Edinburgh's body will be carried to the West Steps in a Land Rover, which was specially designed by Philip himself.
