Australia imposes sanctions against Iran and Russia for violation of human rights

Australia is imposing sanctions on seven Russians and six Iranians, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said.

Report informs referring to Reuters that seven Russians who are suspected of being involved in the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny fell under the restrictions.

Australia is also imposing additional targeted financial sanctions on three Iranians and one Iranian business for supplying drones to Russia for use against Ukraine.

Wong said that the supply of unmanned aerial vehicles to Russia is a testament to the role that Iran is playing in destabilizing global security.

According to him, the imposition of additional sanctions once again underlines that those who provide material support to Russia will face consequences.

Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Australia has imposed sanctions against hundreds of Russian individuals and legal entities, including most of the Russian banking sector and all organizations responsible for the country's public debt.
