Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has confirmed that all weapons in the country will be transferred to state control, the Lebanese president said in an interview with Al Arabiya, Report informs.
Aoun's statement came the day after the Hezbollah armed group rejected the idea of its disarmament, calling the government's initiative "non-existent" and accusing it of a "grave sin."
At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers instructed the Lebanese army to develop a plan to disarm all armed groups by the end of 2025.
"Exclusive control over weapons will be achieved despite the difficulties and obstacles," Aoun said, adding that he is waiting for "the Lebanese army's final plan for the monopolization of weapons," which will be discussed and approved by the government.
The president also commented on relations with Israel and the proposals of US Special Representative Tom Barrack to normalize the situation on Lebanon's southern border.
"Lebanon's implementation of the American proposal also requires approval from Syria, Israel, as well as guarantees from the United States and France," he noted.
Aoun stressed that establishing order in the security sphere will not weaken Lebanon's sovereignty, but on the contrary, will strengthen it.
